Patek Philippe’s latest creation brings minute repeater and world time complications in one watch

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

Swiss master watchmaker Patek Philippe’s ‘The Art Of Watches Grand Exhibition’ in New York saw the launch of some very, very special timepieces; but amongst them is watch that boasts some rare qualities you don’t even see on the most luxurious and expensive watches. The Patek Philippe Ref. 5531R World Time Minute Repeater New York 2017 Special Edition watch is an amazing new grand complication that melodiously chimes the time for any location in the world – a world first. Such a unique minute repeater involved significant changes to Patek Philippe’s traditional watchmaking process.

Patek Philippe Ref. 5531 World Time Minute Repeater for the first time brings the rare combination of minute repeater and world time complications together under one Patek Philippe case. The watches that have combined the two, there hasn’t been any functional mechanical connection between the repeater and the world time complication. In the 5531R, the repeater will chime the local time, wherever in the world the wearer happens to be. If for instance, your home city is New York but you have changed the reference city to Paris, the 5531R will chime Paris rather than New York time. Introduced in two versions, each in a series of just five pieces, the all-new grand complication watch retails for $561,341

Update – Tiffany & Co. HardWear Collection

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

Next to a piece of jewellery’s overall aesthetics, wearability is just as important, if not the most important factor one considers before committing to the purchase. And because we’re always on the lookout for a piece of jewellery that sits nicely on us that’s also comfortable because when we feel good, we look better.

Which brings us to this particular line that’s stated under every piece of Tiffany’s HardWear collection on their online portal. ‘Designed to be comfortable and easy to wear’ may be a rather bold statement by Tiffany but it also goes to show their commitment to quality and wearability. And with a collection like HardWear that’s both comfortable to wear and pleasing to the eyes, what’s not to love?

And while most of Tiffany’s HardWear collection that has been launched on April 28 at all boutiques worldwide is made up of an array of bracelets, earrings, necklaces and rings, we have narrowed them down to the 3 must-haves from the collection for your perusal.

First up, we have the HardWear Wrap Necklace in 18k yellow gold (SGD18,800), a 92 cm wonder inspired by an archive piece (see above for the original ad) that’s long enough to be looped over such that the ball and the lock seem to be on two separate chains, as if you draped two necklaces over your neck. Then there’s the HardWear Triple Drop Earrings (SGD4100, also in 18k yellow gold), a clear knockout as far as earrings are concerned. There’s something about the graduation of the golden orb that hangs ever so beautifully, a chic and unique piece that’s a natural showstopper. Rounding up the trio, it’s also a necklace (HardWear Graduated Link Necklace, SGD15,600) that starts small at the clasp before it gradually increases in size till you get to the front of the necklace. And no, you won’t end up looking like a mafia boss from the 80s.

Besides the 18k yellow gold pieces, some of the pieces do come in sterling silver as well, so there’s definitely something for everyone. From Tiffany’s HardWear Ball Ring (SGD345) to the HardWear Ball Dangle Ring (SGD685), these are pieces you can slip on on days when you feel more silver than gold. The silver jewellery also extends to other pieces like the HardWear Bead Cuff (SGD675) which comes in the familiar Tiffany & Co. silhouette that’s finished with polished orbs on either end.

Contrary to its name, HardWear isn’t hard to wear at all. Rather, it’s designed to be comfortable and easy to wear. And we rather believe that Hard is better used to describe the women that Wear these pieces. She’s bold, she’s confident and she’s strong.

Tiffany & Co.: Meet New Face Lady Gaga

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

No, this ain’t a Perfect Illusion, it’s confirmed that Lady Gaga will be representing Tiffany & Co. in its latest jewellery collection, HardWearunder the Legendary Style campaign. The campaign will be aired as a 60 second film during the Super Bowl on 5 February.

There are probably a Million Reasons why Gaga was chosen as the face of the campaign. Confidence, femininity, authenticity amongst others… but with a collection like Hardwear that’s supposedly hard and soft all at once, there could be no one better than Gaga. Embodying the strength and soul of modern New York, the collection is one that consists of a beautiful selection of earrings, necklaces, rings and pendants.

Tiffany’s HardWear collection will be available in-stores worldwide on 28 April, with pre-orders available from 5 February onwards. More good news for those who are fans of Super Bowl and Lady Gaga – not only will Lady Gaga be performing in the half-time show this year, it will also be the first time ever that Tiffany and Co. will air a campaign during the Super Bowl. And that’s something we can’t miss out on.

Cartier Icons: Juste un Clou

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

According to Google, a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration is considered an icon. And in the case of Cartier, there are icons aplenty in the 169-year-old luxury jewellery and timepiece house, from its panther to the Santos 100, and then there is the jewellery. From the Trinity de Cartier to LOVE, each is just more desirable than the last, but the subject of today’s post is focused on another icon, the Juste un Clou.

Perhaps the most unexpected of icons, neither symbolic like LOVE or meaningful like Trinity de Cartier, you could even call it the bad boy of the House, the design first conceived by Aldo Cipullo for Cartier New York (yes, it was 3 separate houses back then, with the other two in Paris and London) back in the 70s. Unexpected because at its very core, the Juste un Clou is also a nail, albeit a nail that was reinterpreted as a piece of fine jewellery that you’ll find today at Cartier in the form of bracelets, earrings, necklaces and rings.

A rhythmic spiral and a bold statement, this is a piece you wear to stand out from the rest of the crowd. Available in a delectable array of golds for your picking (Rose, Yellow or White Gold), the Juste en Clou starts from SGD3150 in Singapore for the rings, and upwards of a hundred thousand and more for those bracelets that come paved with diamonds. You just need to decide on the kind of statement you want to make.
