Alexander Wang Fall/Winter 2016-2017 RTW – NYFW

Categories:Fashion

The fall 2016 New York Fashion Week does like breaking the rules, as proven by most of the recently unveiled quirky looks and collections by the top fashion designers. Zoolander ultimate cameo star Alexander Wang(proclaimed by me) couldn’t, of course, exempt himself from being part of this fashion revolution, showcasing one cool rocker girl collection that will make all those, who love total black looks, ravish. The Alexander Wang fall/winter 2016-2017 fashion show took place at Saint Bartholomew’s Church on New York’s Park Avenue, which undoubtedly helped reinforce both the overall collection’s punk-rock attitude and pretty grotesque allure, and the latest passion for contrasting themes and unconventional locations.

Alexander Wang Fall/Winter 2016-2017 RTW - NYFW

Not for nothing, Wang wants his pieces to be worn by girls who “ignore outdated taboos and instead seek what’s off limits,” meaning that self-expression is Wang’s ultimate keyword. The collection’s opening was held by a new addition to the fashion industry, whose baby face totally recalls those of the Eighties punk subculture young members: Katherine Moore. Her delicate features, along with a geometric red short bob and a glam rock striped jacket, definitely set the tone for the entire lineup.

As proven by Moore’s see-through tights, on which it was clearly possible to catch sight of printed slogans stating ‘girls’, most of Wang’s creations take advantage of such expedient, meaning that many of the lineup’s key pieces feature graphic lines in solid-colored letters. Aside from ‘girls’, other cryptic buzzwords such as ‘faded’, ‘tender’ and ‘strict’ quickly made their appearances to label Wang’s skimpy tops and hats, making his collection the perfect array of pieces to literally rock at any punk concert. Wang himself was wearing a graphic jacket with the ‘holy smoke’ statement, when the designer popped out to greet the audience.

The Alexander Wang fall 2016 collection “deliberately opposes standard definitions of beauty and taste,” as it perfectly mixes delicate tulle skirts with studded biker jackets and intarsia sweaters, and goes even further combining different geometrical patterns and cuts, such as stripes with tweeds and jagged hems. Fur is another key element spotted in the collection, as it surely helps accentuate the ‘rocker side’, when combined with the many basics t-shirts and pencil skirts.

Shredded jeans and funny prints, such as stripper pole and marijuana leaves, take the lineup to its more ‘punk rock girl from the Nineties’ level, filling the collection with velvet slip dresses and roomy pants that will surely catapult those, who were born in the Eighties (I bet Kate Moss would have the desire to channel most of these looks). Bold touches of colors accentuate this slightly heroin-chic part of Wang’s collection, lightening most of the pieces’ sharp lines.

Last but not least, it is interesting to point out the lineup’s silent, yet quite uncontested and essential protagonist: Wang’s accessory line. The fashion designer has, in fact, recently launched a long-awaited jewelry line, which he used as the icing on the cake throughout the entire collection.

Alexander Wang Launches a Jewelry Line

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

It seems that many designers have begun shaking up their strategies and adding to their product lines these days, seeing the holiday season and the whole gift-giving traditions as the perfect moment to launch new ideas. Alexander Wang is among these designers, who finds himself opting to start a new line right before the Christmas frenzy. Then again, it was a long time coming as the man has come up with designs for lighter cases, “do not disturb” signs, bottle openers, travel neck pillows and canteens, so Alexander Wang jewelry only makes sense after all of that.

Alexander Wang Jewelry Line

Why on earth had he not launched jewelry before though? “I always wanted to do jewelry, but I never felt like I had the opportunity. I’ve had my hands quite full,” Wang mentioned in one particular interview. “But I really got exposed to it when I went to Balenciaga and I really enjoyed the process.” Better late than never though, right? After all, a designer needs to feel comfortable with a concept first, before embarking on a journey to make it a reality.

Wang is known for his chunky pieces. As such, it makes perfect sense that his small collection of three pieces is all about the chunky, with bike chain earrings and a necklace featuring a lock in the middle. There is also a lock cuff, and these three were shown off for the spring collection. He has increased the number of pieces in thecollection for the pre-fall line as well.

Wang’s previous collaborations for jewelry included those with Gaia Repossi and Betony Vernon. However, at that point, it was him submitting ideas and they handling the rest. At Balenciaga, it was the opposite, with Wang himself having taken over everything from the initial sketches of the ideas to the final production of the jewelry pieces, also having major say in the prices each was listed at. “I really got a hand on it in Paris,” he said. “We were really successful with the jewelry that I did [at Balenciaga].”

At the moment, the Alexander Wang jewelry pieces we see are just a natural extension to the collections he puts out, with the tough looking chic hardware and the intricate details that are forever Wang. It is all produced in Italy, the chain pieces plated with brass palladium, while it is 24-karat gold we notice on the locks that appear. For now, we know that the earrings cost $295, while the prices can range up to $525, as is the case with the double lock necklace.

We know that this will definitely attract a good number of people who are more than willing to give the gift of Alexander Wang jewelry in the coming year for all manner of occasions. First though, we expect Christmas shopping and from Alexander Wang stores to double or triple in the coming days as the collection launches mid-December.

Alexander Wang Leaving Balenciaga?

Categories:Fashion

It appears that all the fashion houses, particularly the older ones, are going through changes with their creative directors. As the world changes, it is only expected to see the fashion industry changing as well, moving designers around in order to ensure the houses are shaken up and fresh new faces are seen on the runway shows, bringing experience from other designer labels to their new hosts and, in turn, keeping the styles presented uniquely different. This is what prevents a brand from going stale, from signature pieces becoming too many and new ideas leaking away. You always need a change of scenery, and that is what appears to be happening now with Balenciaga as well. It appears as though the house and Alexander Wang are in talks at the moment about him leaving for another opportunity where he can showcase his talents. Hired on in December of 2012 as the successor to Nicolas Ghesquiere, Wang had come in to replace the man who exited 15 years of work to go join Louis Vuitton. While this news may be setting in a bit of panic, fans of Wang at Balenciaga should know that another collection is set for release come the end of September and beginning of October at the Paris Fashion Week.

Balenciaga is owned by Kering, the French luxury goods holding company that has fobs over Alexander McQueen, Brioni, Gucci, Puma, Volcom and many others. Balenciaga is among those others, a fashion house founded by Cristobal Balenciaga in Barque Country, Spain, back in 1914. Trademarks of the house include bubble skirts and odd but feminine and ultra-modern shapes, the latter of which has certainly been adopted by Wang over the past few years. Balenciaga has grown under Wang’s direction and currently generates revenues ranging to over 350 million Euros. It is incredibly profitable. Now, it appears as if the Spanish house under French control could part ways with its American designer, ending their collaboration. That is quite the global market there, is it not?

It appears as if Wang might want to put the focus on his own brand at the moment, as it has been found that he’s been seeking investors for it. There are no confirmations either way, but the contract is set to end with his spring 2016 collection and may not be renewed. He has been a triumph as creative director and it would be very sad indeed to see Alexander Wang leave Balenciaga that certainly has gained not only in revenue but also in fame over the past few years. You see Balenciaga knock-offs now like never before, people proudly displaying their Balenciaga items and giving it the treatment Gucci or other such brands currently have. Perhaps the times have changed, perhaps the pieces have become more endearing, but whatever the case may be, we know that Balenciaga has truly become a household name in the fashion world of late, as well as among those who understand little of the industry.

Alexander Wang Rocco Bag In Neoprene Injected Black

Categories:Other Brands

Alexander-Wang-Rocco-in-Neoprene-Injected-Black

The Alexander Wang Rocco Handbag is not a new bag, but for the Fall and Winter 2014 Collection, it’s being reinvented and re-styled.

Usually the Rocco comes with pebbled leather and nowadays they are available in plenty of colors. This bag is famous for its studded bottom; especially ‘rose gold’ is simply to-die-for.

But anyways, the new Rocco bag is made in neoprene injected black leather and to be honest, it’s looks more like an accessory to company your ‘tough girl’ appearance, the ‘motorcycle’ type of look. Carry this bag, hop on your motor and travel the cities.

If you take another glance, the body of the bag also appears to be, or look quite similar to a tire of a car.

The Alexander Wang Rocco Bag in Neoprene Injected Black comes with two zipper pockets in one exterior gusset, a shoulder strap with a signature dog clips, an interior zipped pocket with logo patch and phone pocket, so basically enough compartments to store our essentials.

Measuring 13.5’ x 9.25’ x 9.25’ (L x H x W) inches, priced at $995 USD via Alexander Wang e-store.
